How to support the Library

You can support the Los Angeles Public Library in several ways:

  • Join a “Friends” group.  There is a “Friends of the Library” group for most branch libraries and departments of the Central Library.  Friends groups raise money for improvements to their library through memberships, used book sales and other activities.  For more information click here or talk to your local librarian.
  • Join the Library Foundation of Los Angeles.  The Library Foundation is a non-profit organization that raises funds for Library enhancement programs such as adult and early literacy, children and teen reading clubs, technology, and cultural programs.  Foundation members receive a variety of benefits with their membership.  For more information, see

Homework Help at West Covina Library

Need help with homework? Try the West Covina Library Homework Center. Caring and trained staff are available to assist children in their efforts to successfully complete homework assignments. Help is available for students in grades K-6 for all subjects. The Homework Center is free.

Homework Center Hours:
Monday - Thursday 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Friday 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Saturday 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.


If you can't get to the library, homework help is also available for free online with the program Live Homework Help. Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade as well as college students can connect to live tutors for 20-minute one-on-one chat sessions in math, science, social studies, and English. Adults can also get career help, including resume review, job searching and interview preparation. This service is available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese and is free at the Library or from any computer using a library card. Visit the website ( to connect.

The Library's website also features free online databases with access to full-text articles from magazines, reference books, downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks, free online courses, and more. 


Programs for Children

Family Storytime is on Tuesdays 6:00 p.m. Families with children ages 3-8 are welcome to join and enjoy fun stories and activities that foster reading readiness, listening skills, and the joy of books and reading. Kids will complete an art project after every storytime.

Toddler Storytime for children 18 months to 3 years old is held on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. Language development, listening skills, and fun are promoted through music, rhymes, movement activities, and books specially chosen to appeal to this age group.

Page Turners Book Club, for children kindergarten – 2nd grade, meets first Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Books will be available to check out three weeks before the program at the Children’s Desk.

Family Place Play & Learn Area

The Play and Learn Area is designed for babies ages 0-5. Toys and furniture have been selected just the right size for these little ones. There are pretend “Houses and Neighborhood,” “Theater,” “Market,” “Bakery” and more… Parents and care givers are invited to use the space with your child as a chance to bond and enhance their learning experience. The Play and Learn Area is located in the Children’s Room on the second floor.

Programs for Young Adults/Teens

Each month, the Library offers events for young adults/teens (ages 12-18), including video gaming, board and card games, movies, and art projects.

In addition to these events, the Teen Advisory Board meets every first Thursday at 4:00 p.m. This group is open to anyone aged 12-18 who is interested in giving input on library services and materials, including coming up with new programs for teens. This is a great way to get those community service hours while having fun - and eating snacks!

Second Saturday at the West Covina Library

All adults are welcome to join us for a new series of programs that will happen at 2:00 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month in the library meeting room. Come to the library and learn about a wide range of topics, including local history, flower arranging, vegetable cooking, and car restoration, just to name a few! These interesting, informative, and free programs are brought to you by the County of Los Angeles and the Friends of the West Covina Library.

Programs for Adults 

Knitting and Crocheting Club meets every first Tuesday of each month from 1:00 p.m. Ages 14 and up. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, come join the fun as we knit, crochet and learn patterns together. Please bring your own needles, crochet hooks, and yarn.


Zumba Class is on every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for ages 11 and up. The class is limited to 65 people, due to space limitation. First come, first served.

Friends of the West Covina Library

Do you love your library? Are you looking for a great way to help out your community? Join the Friends of the West Covina Library. The Friends help the library by encouraging donations, by holding book sales, and by raising funds to buy materials and pay for programs. It is a great way to volunteer, provide a public service, and make new friends.
